Hi, welcome, I’m Kacy and I’m the “miss”
behind, misskacysews! I’m a full time single mom to two beautiful children. I’m
quirky, dorky, and my view of the world is a bit skewed. My glass is usually
half full, and I have a penchant for the strange and unusual. I’m obsessed with
vintage fashion, pinup culture and all things rockabilly, swing and lindy hop. I’ve been told often that I was born in the wrong decade. I love to
sew and spend most of my free time in front of my sewing machines, piecing
together vintage fashions, which I wear most days of the week. I began sewing
when I was twelve and had the most wonderful sewing teacher ever, my mom. She
instilled in me a love for crafting something with my hands and a sewing
machine that far surpasses any other creative endeavor I’ve tried. I spent many
years as a performer in renaissance faires and pirate festivals; this is where
I rediscovered my love for designing and creating with fabric and thread from
scratch. I crafted and designed all of my costumes for years worth of various
shows, all completed with historical accuracy. When I had my son five years ago, I had a terrible multi-year struggle with postpartum depression. I began sewing for him, diapers, wipes, blankets and clothes. This helped anchor me to the world. When my daughter was born 18 months go, I once again suffered mentally. This time though, postpartum anxiety was the monster. Sewing, once again, offered me a grounded place. A safe haven, if you will. Still today as I struggle to fight the anxious moments, I can find peace and solace at my sewing machine. I don't know if it's the sounds, the motions, or a combination of the two, but it works. I love to study history, architecture
and have a longing for all things adventurous and knowledgeable. I have a
desire to be everything and see everything. I believe that you never stop learning,
and if you do, you might as well be dead. The world holds much to see and do
and learn, get out there and do it. In my never ending quest for learning, I spend quite a bit
of time with my nose in a book, the classics, Shakespeare and romance are my literary works of choice. I’m preparing to return to school in the fall,
to study graphic design with a hope to enter a fashion design program in two
years. You can often find me hula hooping when I’m alone and helping my
children to discover and explore the world when I’m not.
