Butterick B6055

So if you follow the #vintagepledge, you may have seen this post a few weeks ago! I've been meaning to get the post up over here as well! I'm thrilled with how well this turned out and I really love how it fits. So here's the details on this fabulous make!

Butterick B6055, great pattern, beautiful dress. This pattern is one of the patterns in Butterick's Retro Collection from 1950. Super quick and easy pattern, very easy to read and fairly simple to follow.

I was a bit concerned that the collar would make this a bit more difficult, but not the case at all. The directions walk you right through the harder parts and everything went together like a breeze. I sewed a 14 in the shoulders and top of the bodice, and a 16 at the waist of the bodice and skirt.

So how much do you love these pockets!! They are the shit and I adore them. A friend of mine said I needed to put them on everything!

I used a lovely, bright floral fabric from my stash. I think I got this around tax time at JoAnn's on clearance for either $2.00 or $2.50 a yard!

All together, I think this took about 6 hours total over the course of a couple of weeks to finish. I love how it turned out and I will be making it again. I would like to do another in a solid color, perhaps with an altered sleeve style. This dress is very flattering and I love the way it fits me. Here's the pictures of the finished dress!

I felt completely stunning in these pictures and that was a much needed pick me up! Enjoy!

Until next time!!

Me-Made-May 2016 Week 1!

Sorry for the late post, I've been meaning to get this up for a week now. This past week was a bit rough for me and I am just getting around to a lot of work this week. So without further ado and keeping it short because I'm short on time, here are my #mmmay16 looks for week one!

Have a wonderful week!
Until next time!

Me Made May Pledge 2016!

Well here it is the 1st of May! My goodness how quickly the year is flying by. I just finished my finals for Spring semester last week, so I'm officially free from school until May 16th... when Summer semester starts. So for the next two weeks, I'm going to sew my heart out, because I can. :)

I made a pledge to the lovely Zoe of "So, Zo What Do You Know" for Me-Made-May this year.

I, Kacy, of misskacysews.com and @misskacysews, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '16. I endeavor to wear at least 3 me-made garments each week for the duration of May 2016!

Last year I pledged 2 garments per week, so I wanted to step it up a bit this year, but not go overboard, as the past two semesters in school have been tough on my sewing time.

Today is my first full day off, the kids are with their dad and I intend to not do anything but sit in front of my sewing machine! So I'll be in my yoga pants all day! I didn't make them though, so nothing to share yet. I'll do my best to update on #MMM16 at least once a week! That is my pledge to you!

I will end this post by sharing a few of my photographs taken for my Digital Media Design work this semester! Have a great Sunday my friends! All images copyrighted, please don't steal them!!

Until next time.

Completely Out of Touch!

Wow, so this year is flying by already and I'm falling so far behind on everything it seems. I am, as you may know if you follow me, a full time graphic design student. I am currently finishing up my first year (3 weeks left), and I am also a full time single mom to two crazy monsters that are 2 and 5. That said, I'm finding it extremely difficult to keep up with this blog.

I have all of these huge plans, but I'm batting zero on the execution. I have done some sewing planning and have also made a #vintagepledge of 7 garments this year. I've yet to sew a single one. I did start on a skirt this weekend, but I have no photos of it's progress yet. That said, here's a bit of the planning I've done so far.

Butterick B5748 - I received this amazing cloud animal fabric from an online swap group that I'm a member of. I just died when I saw it and I knew it had to become this dress!!

Simplicity Vintage Reprint 1194 - This floral print also came from my swap group and it's lovely and screams Spring!

Vogue V1044 - Planning to use this pink rosebud floral that I think will look amazing for this lovely dress with such amazing pintuck details on the front bodice.

Simplicity Vintage Reprint 1459 - This pink gingham will be used to make this dress, this year, if it kills me!

Simplicity 1419 - This Lisette pattern is not vintage, but it has so many lovely vintage details.

Butterick B5880 - This fabric has been in my stash for over a year now and it needs to become something sarong-like. I need a Tiki dress! That being said, originally I was all set to sew it up in this Butterick pattern. Then this image popped up this weekend.
This new Gertie pattern, is exactly what I need considering it's all separates!! What??? Sign me up! I need this pattern in my life.

Simplicity 8051 - I've been hoarding this argyle print for over a year, and several times it's shown up on my Instagram with different patterns... I still don't know if this is THE pattern for this fabric, but you know what they say about the best laid plans.

All five of these will become circle skirts for this year. I love the middle print, it's really cute and covered in straight pins and different images of fabric types. It screams sewist to me.

That's the "dress" plans for this year. You'll probably see most of these as my #vintagepledge makes for this year. Now, I just need to get this semester over with and find time to sew! Hopefully I'll actually have something to show you in my next post! <3

Until next time!

My Official 2016 Vintage Pledge

So 2016 is here and since we are now into March, it's a quarter of the way over... ack. I'm so far behind with this little blog this year. I've got some things to share with you from Christmas 2015 in a hopefully upcoming post. I would also like to share with you a few things that I've done for school this past year. I have also been working on some sewing plans for this year. I've collected tons of fabric and some new patterns, but sadly I've had very little opportunity to sit down and sew. So that all being said, I need to make my official 2016 Vintage Pledge. I'm stepping it up a notch this year, last year I pledged 5 makes and managed to get at least 10 done. I've got a room full of fabric and do not need to buy any more right now, so it's time to get through some of it.

http://www.astitchingodyssey.com/2016/01/sign-up-to-vintagepledge-2016.html

I, Kacy Burchfield, of misskacysews.com pledge to make up 7 of my vintage or vintage reproduction patterns this year, using fabric I already have in my stash.

So there you have it, my 2016 pledge. I'll be working on a few more things for you this week, as I'm on Spring Break and while I've spent most of the week seriously purging and cleaning my house, I really hope to get some time in my studio.

Hang in there dear readers, I'll hopefully be getting something good for you up here soon.

Until next time!!

The Dixie O'Dare Sun Frock Sew-Along

Recently I joined in the Dixie O'Dare Sun Frock Sew Along. The lovely Dixie O'Dare graded this gorgeous Australian Home Journal pattern to several different sizes and then kindly sent them out to everyone who wanted to participate. I chose this turquoise and navy polka dotted cotton that I've been holding onto for a while.

I had a little bit of trouble right off the bat with the fit. This pattern calls for a line of buttons up the back, but when I put it on Millie, it seemed huge. I took at least 6 inches of ease out of the bodice.

Once I got that worked out and the new darts sewn in, I got to work on the trim and shoulder straps. I used a navy blue piping to trim the edges and made self covered buttons for the back.

The skirt went together quickly. I did add a bit more fullness to the bottom of the skirt since I prefer them that way.

The last bit was adding the pockets. I think I put them a bit too close together in the front, but they aren't terrible so I'm not ripping them off to try to move them.

I am very pleased with how this dress turned out. It fits great. I think if I were to make it again, I would lower the front darts about 2 inches. I have discovered that this seems to be a recurring problem for me, and no one like pointy boobs... Not sure why, but I'll try to work it out on my next make. Thanks again to Miss Dixie O'Dare for letting me play along on this one!

Until next time!

I'm a Busy Girl

Hello my dears. I apologize for the lack of content lately. I'm now 9 weeks into my first semester back in college and just finished up midterms. I'm so ridiculously busy, between taking 14 credit hours at school, working 25 hours a week, and being a full time single mommy to my two munchkins that I've been neglecting the sewing and the blogging a bit while I'm trying to get the hang of this juggling thing.

I hope that you are all doing well. I've got a few projects on my table that are almost finished, and I've got a few things planned for the next few months. Now I've just got to find the time to get sewing!!

In the past month, I have dyed my hair a fantabulous shade of red. My thanks to RockNRoll Red from Manic Panic!!

I have drawn this super awesome teacup and saucer for my drawing class.

I have traded in my beloved Flock Tula for this rocking Betty Tula in Toddler size because the little rockstar is growing too fast!

I have finished a simple navy blue circle skirt and a leopard print circle skirt recently. I have another one in a cute cherry print waiting for a zipper and a hem.

(Sorry for the crappy pictures, I just haven't had time to get proper ones.)

I joined up with the Dixie O'Dare sew-a-long, and hope to be starting on that soon. You can find out more about that by clicking the link.

I'm also working on a pretty green halter dress for my Halloween party at work, but I don't know if that one will get finished or not???!!?!? I'm going to try my best!

Thanks again for being my readers, and I really miss you all!!

Until next time!
